H&I decided to do something a little different this year, we invested in a National Park Pass. We have been excited to use it, but we haven't currently done much with it. As my computer reminds me, it's July 30th.. it's time. What I like about the pass is it works, not only for the parks, but for other things as well (lakes, forests, scenic byways..i think) there is a list on the website in total about 2,000 things across the US. Also, it allows you to take in a car load of people for free, if the entrance fee is per person, the card holder and 3 other people get to come with you. It's a rather sweet deal considering.
We have managed to visit our first national park. Joshua Tree. Conveniently, it happens to be less than a 5 minute drive from H's mom's house. His brother was good enough to take us out there one morning, on a fairly quick hour and a half driving tour to see some of the high points. His brother also is there so often, it was like we had our own personal tour guide! I admit I did think it was pretty. I'm not a huge desert fan having lived close to the ocean my entire life... and I'm not sure exactly how the terrain of the city of Joshua Tree manages to vary so drastically from a couple minutes outside the park to such large boulders and rock formations, and forests of tall joshua trees once you get inside. I am, however, fascinated by this, and I hope we can go back here around the holidays. I would love to see some snow dusting the landscape. Here are a few pictures that I took.
I'm pretty sure the picture above, you are looking down onto Palm Springs.
It was a treat to see that the raven came out clear.
This was the view from the other side of the lookout point. I'm pretty sure off in the distance is the Salton Sea and Mexico.
The tallest Joshua Tree in the park...
We are heading to our next park this Thursday! Who's excited? This girl. H has been informed he will be getting up for sunrise pics (5am to get to the point for a 5:30am sunrise) and there will be sunset one's as well! I hope everything works for some awesome pics. Park #2 is on my bucket list, not that I officially have one, but if I did, it would be on it.
